Job Description:

The Air Traffic Radar Systems SME serves as a senior technical advisor, providing expert guidance on the planning, deployment, and transition of radar surveillance systems across the National Airspace System (NAS). This role leverages extensive knowledge of primary and secondary radar technologies, operational requirements, and regulatory standards to ensure system solutions meet FAA mission needs. The SME advises program leadership, reviews contractor deliverables, and supports decision-making on modernization, integration, and lifecycle sustainment of surveillance capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise program leadership on radar system strategies, transition planning, and technical risks.

  • Provide subject matter expertise on primary surveillance radar (PSR), secondary surveillance radar (SSR), and integration with other surveillance technologies (ADS-B, multilateration, automation).

  • Review and evaluate contractor technical proposals, design documentation, and test results for compliance with FAA requirements

  • Conduct independent assessments of system performance, coverage, and interoperability.

  • Support requirements development, systems engineering reviews, and operational readiness assessments.

  • Ensure alignment with FAA policies, ICAO standards, and NAS architecture.

  • Facilitate knowledge transfer, training, and stakeholder engagement to support informed decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of and typically 20+ years of related professional experience.

  • Recognized expertise in air traffic radar systems with direct experience supporting FAA programs or equivalent aviation authorities.

  • Strong knowledge of NAS surveillance architecture, FAA acquisition processes, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide authoritative technical advice and influence program outcomes.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and analytical skills.

Salary Range: $155,600.00 - $280,100.00
