Job Description:

Senior Clinical Research Scientist (SCRS)

Parsons is committed to solving the Military Health System’s most challenging health and operational readiness issues with the world’s best data-driven solutions. Our staff supports a myriad of mission-critical science and technology projects for all military Services, both in the U.S. and around the globe. Our core competencies include Research and Program Management in the areas of Infectious Diseases, Clinical and Rehabilitative Medicine, Genomics-based Science, and Military Health, Performance, and Recovery.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Research Scientist to support the Clinical Investigations Department (CID) at the Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune (NMCCL). The Research Scientist will assist CID and Principal Investigators (PIs) in all phases of CID research protocols, adhering to regulations, policies, and procedures set forth by the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Navy (DoN), Defense Health Agency (DHA), and NMCCL. Additionally, the SCRS will lead efforts to identify new research opportunities and promote NMCCL's research capabilities.

NMCCL/CID is dedicated to advancing scholarly activities that are operationally relevant to both the Command and the community. Currently, CID supports various research initiatives in areas such as traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, alternative treatment therapies, prevention and treatment of mental health disorders, and military training and readiness. These initiatives aim to enhance DoD support for warfighters and their families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Spearhead and develop new biomedical and TBI research endeavors through the implementation and oversight of research studies in collaboration with research professionals internally and externally. May serve as Principal Investigator for studies that match proficiency.
  • Assist in the design of clinical initiatives by contributing to moderately complex aspects of a study, execution of IRB approval protocols, risk management, and analysis clinical data.
  • Provide recommendations based on scientific expertise that influence extensive clinical research activities. Participates in the development of clinical trial design by conducting meetings with the appropriate departments and individuals to obtain feedback/direction.
  • Attend and present at conferences, meetings, trainings for professional development and presentation of research findings or patient care reports, as appropriate.
  • Assist in securing grants and funding for research and development and preparing budgets.
  • Abide by all applicable regulations regarding Utilization Review and Quality Improvement directives including, but not limited to, in-service training, peer review, performance improvement, records maintenance, performance evaluations, and release of information.
  • Demonstrate competence and possess knowledge of complex regulations; policies and procedures concerning the conduct of clinical trials to include Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), International council on Harmonization (ICH) regulations and IND/IDE requirements.
  • Maintain an active membership in the commands RQC to ensure study proposals are scientifically sound.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Doctorate (PhD) with a focus in Neuropsychology, Psychiatry, or related health or medical field and a minimum of four years providing direct research management and oversight of experience OR Master of Science (MS) with a focus in Neuropsychology, Psychiatry, or related health or medical field and a minimum of eight years working experience in a (Neuropsychology, Psychiatry, or related health or medical field) research setting to include planning, organization, and execution of research protocols.
  • Proven experience in managing and overseeing clinical research projects.
  • Possess a comprehensive, intensive, and practical knowledge of the clinical research process, including protocol preparation; processing for approval and continuing review; and execution.
  • Demonstrated competence and possess knowledge of complex regulations, policies and procedures concerning the conduct of clinical trials and research (including Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), International Council on Harmonization (ICH) regulations, IND/IDE requirements, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the handling of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI)).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate complex clinical research data and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to follow general and specific instructions (including safety precautions in inpatient wards, outlying clinics, and field environments to mitigate risk of exposure to infectious diseases).
  • Fluent English (oral and written) and the ability to communicate and collaborate with investigators from diverse scientific and medical disciplines in a professional, concise, and effective manner with peers, colleagues, and customers.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Doctorate (PhD) with a focus in Neuropsychology, Psychiatry, or related health or medical field.
  • Prior experience working within a Department of Defense (DoD) research environment is highly desirable.
  • A track record of published research demonstrating expertise in relevant fields.
  • Experience in securing grants and funding for research projects.
  • Skilled at integrating terminology and concepts from various fields to facilitate comprehensive research project development.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with investigators from diverse scientific and medical disciplines.
  • Ability to assess research methodologies, identify potential issues, and develop effective solutions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles and methodologies relevant to QI/PI, research projects, program evaluation, quality improvement, case studies, public health surveillance/practice, operational testing and evaluation, demonstrations, and other purposes.
  • Ability to interpret and integrate scientific literature from various fields to support research initiatives.

Salary Range: 

$96,400.00 - $168,700.00
