Job Description:

Mechanical  Inspector – San Diego, California

Parsons is now hiring an experienced Mechanical  Inspector in the San Diego, California area to work with various inspections for wastewater/water treatment plants, for filter rehabilitations. Experience with inspections at wastewater or water treatment plants is essential for this role. This is a full-time role with benefits, on a long-term project.  

Overview:

Under general supervision, performs difficult and sometimes complex inspection tasks. Inspects various facets of work on the job site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned inspection activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Documents nonconformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolution. Inspection activities will be concentrated in mechanical systems l for water utilities Work site is primarily in the City of San Diego.   Performs work in safe manner and is cognizant of public safety.

Duties :

  • Extensive experience with installation and assembly of various wastewater filtration equipment. For example: flexible rake screens, rectangular and circular clarifier mechanisms, agitation air blower systems, & carbon media filtration.
  • Knowledge and installation expertise of various wastewater process pumps. For example: vertical turbine, centrifugal, metering/sampling, progressive cavity.
  • Install and testing of FRP and SST tanks.
  • Assembly and testing of above ground piping and supports for various pipe materials (e.g ductile iron, stainless steel and PVC)
  • Ability to execute detailed daily inspections reports and documentation of contractor activities.
  • Familiarity with ASME and ASTM standards relevant to mechanical equipment and pipe installations
  • Knowledge of CM Inspection and Test Plans

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

2-year degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required

. Also requires 5 years or more of related experience on field projects, as well as formal certification from an independent organization, depending on the type of inspection assignment.

 Some knowledge of public works contracts is desirable  Construction safety training including OSHA 10-hour training and Parsons SHARP training is desirable.

Experience with inspection of systems at a wastewater and/or water treatment plant is preferred.  

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and be thoroughly familiar with construction-related processes related to the area of assignment. Knowledge of English grammar and composition, the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions, prepare written messages and simple charts and graphs. Capability to perform math calculation in order to prepare engineering calculations, graphs and charts. Proficiency with basic computer usage, Microsoft Office, Project Management Software and internet search engines (like Google or equivalent). Ability to comply with multitude of requirements as applicable to the project based on client and industry standards. Must have thorough understanding of scheduling, and the ability to review progress pay estimates and extra work bills. Must be able to recognize hazardous work conditions and take action if necessary. Ability to use good judgment and work with others is required. Requires ability to climb ladders, inspect work above ground, and work in confined spaces. Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs (i.e. lifting materials used for testing of concrete, AC, etc.).

Salary Range: 

$15.68 - $71.30
